The meat loaf debacle INSPIRES!

Well, the great meat loaf debacle of 2010 (not to be confused with the great paint debacle of the same year) is over and bellies are full! We threw in some carrots and cut up potatoes into the mix and with a side of broccoli, everyone was well fed! You could barely notice that little hint of something extra (see previous post). Next time, not so many onions, though...

This all inspired us to tell you some great substitutes for bad bad food choices. Sure, we could all eat our weight in Snickers and Doritos, who couldn't? An ice cold can of coke? Pop the top, baby. But it only packs on sugar and lbs that we don't need, right? So if you are in the mood for a food revolution (inspired by Mr. Jamie Oliver, of Naked Chef fame....AWESOME SHOW BY THE WAY!!!) check out some of these alternatives...

A YUMMY SANDWICH:
Instead of spreading Hellman's all over your bread and basking in the glory of it all, try:

a Kangaroo Salad pocket (looks like 1/2 a pita)
spread avocado all over the inside
thinly slice a strawberry and put that in
Boar's Head ever roast chicken cut thin.
There you have yourself a healthy, yummy yummy sammie.

INSTEAD OF DORITOS:
Quaker Guacamole rice chips...they have the kick you are looking for and no guilt!

Or...
Snyder's Honey Mustard and Onion Nibblers....(only 3 grams of fat and you can have 13 of them!)

INSTEAD OF THE SNICKERS (I.E....GUILT FOR DAYS):
Try a Special K Protein snack bar in the Peanut flavor (the chocolate flavor isn't as good)
It tastes suspiciously like snickers and no guilt!

INSTEAD ICE COLD COKE (OR OTHER SODA...WE CALL THEM COKE EVEN IF IT'S MOUNTAIN DEW IN THE SOUTH):

Try a glass of your favorite juice...apple, grape, cranberry, and put 1/3 a glass of sparkling water. It gives you the bubbly without all the bad sugar!

INSTEAD OF YOUR TUB OF BLUEBELL HOME MADE VANILLA:
Try the Skinny Cow ice cream cones: My favorite are the chocolate ones...sooooooo yummy.

THE BEST 2 CHICKEN DINNERS YOU'LL EVER EAT/MAKE. YOU'LL THANK ME!

Sae's WORLD FAMOUS (seriously) FRENCH ONION CHICKEN
Get boneless skinless chicken breasts
A carton of egg beaters
A can of French's French Onions (like you put on green bean casserole)

Preheat the oven to 425
Pour the egg beaters in a bowl
dip the chicken in the the eggs
Roll them around in crushed french's onions
bake for 35-45 minutes until done

I am telling you this will be a new hit at your house! So easy a cave man could do it!

SAE'S SOON TO BE WORLD FAMOUS HONEY BBQ BAKED CHICKEN AND PINEAPPLE SALSA:

Seriously, this should be on the menu at COAST:

preheat oven to 425
Get your chicken and put a thin layer of store brand (because it's cheap) honey bbq sauce on it
Throw it in a glass dish
Put it in the oven for 30 min.
After 30 minutes, take it out and lather the rest of the sauce on the chicken. Put it back in for 10-15 minutes.
SALSA for the topping:
Chop a green, yellow, and red pepper
Drain and chop a can of pineapple
Mix it together and spoon on top of the chicken.

This is TO DIE FOR. Again, your peeps will think you slaved!

Last one...

BETTER THAN BREAK AND BAKE COOKIES:
Get the Betty Crocker package (not box, but paper pouch) of Chocolate chip oatmeal mix
Use Smart Balance instead of a stick of butter
Use Egg beaters instead of egg
Less than 2 grams of fat where break and bake cookies are 8 g of fat a piece! Cook them for less time and they will be crisp on the outside, ooooie gooey on the inside.

A Barefoot Contessa I'm not.....but with these easy things, I may live a little longer than Paual Dean...bless her heart.
